“Early and forced marriage is one of the most significant barriers to girl’s education, maternal health, female economic empowerment and the education of basic fundamental rights. In November 2011, the Hindu Women’s Organisation of T&T responded to the above statement made by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth, Australia. 


Since then our objective has been and still is to develop a rationale which will instil harmony and mutual respect within the larger society as we advocate changing the relevant laws.
